  • Founder & CEO

Richard Sackett is the founder and CEO of Group Matrix Advertising. He decided to focus his efforts on personal injury law firms, after the historic ruling of Bates v. State Bar of Arizona on June 27, 1977, allowing lawyers to advertise.

In 1970, at the age of 21, Richard, a military veteran and a Communications graduate from Loyola University in New Orleans, was already the Executive Vice President of Fetty & Associates, the largest retail agency in New Orleans. It was then that he decided he wanted to create his own marketing firm, one that would offer all forms of traditional advertising and communications, along with the up and coming digital world of the Internet.

Always the vanguard of industry changes, he created a team of professionals -- photographers, cameramen, soundmen, public relations specialists, writers, artists, computer developers, and salespeople – that would work as a synergistic team of professionals to herald in a new type of advertising agency, one that understood the absolute value of traditional marketing as well as the absolute value of the then-new technological age.

When asked what made Group Matrix unique, he responded, “We use our vast experience in retail and customer response. Unlike other firms, we do what we know the public will respond to. We take the position of the attorney’s client in crafting the advertising. The airways and internet are crowded with messages about the attorneys. Our outreach is from the victim’s point of view.”

He foresees the future of law firm marketing associated with the consolidation of local firms into regional ones. For Group Matrix, his goal is clear. He wants to continue offering the two levels of service that he started – helping smaller law firms develop strategies capable of competing against the larger ones, and helping those firms make the next step up the ladder. His best advice for those firms seeking his services is, “It’s important that you consider your future.”

In his infrequent spare time, Richard is a yachtsman, jet pilot, collector of exotic cars and miniature trains, and helping young people find the pathway to their dreams.

  • Co-Founder

For the past 45 years, Joyce has worked with husband Richard at Group Matrix as a media buyer, bookkeeper, and traffic coordinator while filling in wherever she might be needed.

Joyce, originally from Chicago, began her professional career as an optician and owned several optical stores in Louisiana. It was there that she met Richard, her soon-to-be husband. After their children Jordan and Ariel were born, she opted to be a stay-at-home mom while the children were growing up. Both now also work at Group Matrix.

When asked what it’s like working with Richard, Joyce said, “He’s really a guru of legal advertising, marketing, and practice building for personal injury law firms. He is a motivator, educator, guide, mentor, leader, master-promoter, creator, and visionary, all the while making sure his employees and loved ones are cared for in good time and bad.”

She characterizes her relationship with Richard as follows.

“Richard is to legal advertising and marketing as Richard and Joyce are to peanut butter and jelly. It’s just a perfect match.”
